[Points: Title and type of the book - name of the author - subject - matter and style - the message it communicates - the impression it has left on your mind.]

Recently I read the book 'Ramer Sumati', a novel by Saratchandra Chatterjee. The central figure in the novel is the motherless boy Ramalal who had been brought up with all the love and affection of a mother by Narayani, wife of his step brother Shyamlal. Ramlal was an unruly boy, full of mischief. The story centred round Ramlal's mischievous activities all to the great embarassment of Shyamlal. Narayani's motherly affection almost bordering on indulgence, however, loomed large in him and gave him constant protection and prevented the family from breaking down. Narayani was an ideal mistress of the joint family, full of love and sweetness and tact. How skillfully did she prevent the quarrels between her mother and Ramlal from going to extremes! But the author's portrayal of the character of Ramlal appeals to me most. With all his waywood nature and hot temper, he was like a lamb to his sister-in-law. How nicely have his feelings for Narayani been painted through a few incidents ! The author's deep insight into human character and his matchless power of expressing diverse moods and feelings of a love-hungry boy like Ram have simply charmed me.
