My dear Piali,

You will be glad to learn that the marriage ceremony of my brother came off on Monday last at Barrackpore. My sister-in-law is the eldest daughter of Dr P.K. Dutta, an eminent physician of that place.

It was about sunset when we reached Dr Dutta's house. The ladies assembled received us with ulus, blowing of conchs and showers of fried rice. After some light refreshment in the lawn tastefully decorated, we were led to a roof where the main ceremony was to take place.

I do not go into the details of the rites as you are not unaware of them. Suffice it to state that everything passed off smoothly. The wedding over, my brother and sister-in-law were taken inside the house for further rites, while we were treated to a sumptuous feast.

The bride's party were all attention, urging us again and again for more and more. We then took leave of my brother and left for home. Before I conclude I must add a few words about my sister-in-law.

She is tolerably fair, a graduate in Arts and is reported to be docile and sweet-tempered. I hope she will bring us joy with her love and prove a worthy lifemate of my brother.

For my part, I shall spare no pains to be a real sister to her. Hoping this finds you quite well and with love,

Yours ever,
Bibha
